Spencer M. Bondy

Spencer M. Bondy is a Michigan criminal defense attorney and the founder of Bondy Law, PLLC, a law firm based in Milford, Michigan, with a practice focused on criminal defense, OWI/DUI defense, driver's license restoration, and license appeals. Since beginning his legal career in 2016, Spencer has represented individuals facing misdemeanor and felony charges throughout Michigan, including Oakland County, Livingston County, Washtenaw County, and communities across Southeast and Northern Michigan.

Spencer founded Bondy Law, PLLC in 2020 with a commitment to providing individualized legal representation grounded in thorough preparation, honest communication, and an understanding of the profound impact criminal charges can have on a person's freedom, family, career, and future. Spencer's criminal defense practice encompasses every stage of a criminal case, from pre-charge investigations and arraignments through preliminary examinations, evidentiary hearings, jury trials, sentencing, and appeals. Throughout his career, Spencer has represented clients charged with a wide range of criminal offenses, including operating while intoxicated (OWI/DUI), domestic violence, assault and battery, child abuse, drug offenses, fraud, theft, weapons offenses, and other serious misdemeanor and felony charges. His courtroom accomplishments include obtaining not guilty verdicts in both felony and misdemeanor jury trials, including acquittals in cases involving allegations of violent crimes, domestic violence, and child abuse. Spencer has also secured the dismissal of criminal charges through contested preliminary examinations, successful motions to suppress evidence, motions to quash, and evidentiary hearings challenging the constitutionality of law enforcement investigations.

Spencer's criminal defense work frequently involves examining the legality of traffic stops, searches, seizures, arrests, and the collection of evidence. His experience includes successfully challenging search warrants, obtaining the suppression of blood alcohol evidence in OWI prosecutions, and securing dismissals.

A significant portion of Spencer's practice is dedicated to helping individuals restore their driving privileges following driver's license revocations, suspensions, and restrictions imposed by the Michigan Secretary of State. Spencer regularly represents clients before the Michigan Department of State's Office of Hearings and Administrative Oversight (OHAO) in driver's license restoration hearings, ignition interlock violation proceedings, and other administrative matters involving driving privileges, including successfully representing clients in circuit court appeals challenging OHAO decisions. When administrative proceedings do not produce the appropriate legal result, Spencer also represents clients in circuit court appeals challenging OHAO decisions. His appellate accomplishments include obtaining circuit court orders reversing administrative denials of driver's license restoration and securing relief for clients facing the loss of their driving privileges.

Spencer earned his Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University before attending Michigan State University College of Law, where he graduated magna cum laude in 2016. During law school, Spencer completed the rigorous Trial Practice Institute certification program and participated on the College of Law's American Bar Association Negotiation Competition Team.

Beyond representing clients in court, Spencer has contributed to Michigan legal education through published legal scholarship and professional presentations, including serving as a guest speaker at the Washtenaw Community College Police Academny. His publications include:

Spencer's devotion to the law began at a young age when he would spend countless hours at his father Robert M. Bondy's law office in Milford, MI. Before founding Bondy Law, PLLC, Spencer practiced at a metropolitan Detroit municipal and insurance defense firm, where he gained experience in civil litigation, municipal law, and police liability matters. He subsequently practiced criminal defense with Lewis & Dickstein, PLLC, where he developed his criminal trial, motion, and appellate practice. Spencer created Bondy Law, PLLC to continue his father's legacy of trust and integrity in law and business.

When Spencer is not in the office, he enjoys spending his time tying flies and fly fishing with his wife and dog throughout Michigan. He can often be found in the summer floating down the Huron River in Oakland and Washtenaw Counties in his Hyde Skiff.
